As the largest community on Maui and the main commercial and retail center on the

island, Kahului is naturally home to the largest area of Maui commercial real estate.

One of the biggest commercial areas is the Kahului Harbor, a deep-draft harbor that

includes several docks and a large cruise terminal. The cruise terminal sees activity

most days of the week by a number of different ships that transit through Maui. The

most common visitor is the Pride of America, NCL America’s U.S.-flagged vessel that

sails 7-day interisland itineraries throughout the year.

A number of other malls and shopping areas are also popular uses of commercially-

zone land. Queen Kaahumanu features a number of department stores and is joined by

a number of big-box retailers like Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and Target that have just

recently sprung up in the downtown area. In addition to these industrial and retail

areas, Kahului also features a few attractions despite the city not being considered a

popular tourist destination. Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum, Kanaha Pond State

Wildlife Sanctuary, Kanaha Beach County Park, and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center

are all located in Kahului.
